With  Joe Craven

Sunday May 15th,  2011

9AM-5PM

Coloma, CA

This playshop is for anyone who wants to learn how to tap into, or expand their creativity.  Joe will lead you through a variety of hands-on experiences in writing, drawing, music, improv, and other strategies for problem solving.  Learn to:

·         Express yourself with wide open awareness & focus

·         Respond to things in new ways…… in ways you didn’t know you could

·         Perceive experiences & ideas not for what they are – but  for what they can be

·         Think outside the box, & play with it

The goal is to understand the variety, continuity, and value of art as a problem solving mechanism.  Instead of focusing on outcomes, learn to be open to whatever may come through the gift of improvisation.  As Joe puts it, “if you want to live an artful life, you’ve got to find ways to bust through the box of normality, category and mediocrity.  Everyone has a space and a place in all forms of self expression.  I can help you find yours.  Your table is waiting, so come take possession of what you already have!”

No prior artistic or musical experience is necessary to participate in this creativity “ropes” course.  Don’t’ miss this exciting opportunity to personally interact with one of our most gifted artists and talented educators.

About Joe: Creativity educator, former museum curator, visual artist, actor/storyteller, and festival emcee, Joe has been an educator and performer in folk and roots music for almost 30 years.  As a Cum Laude graduate of Museology and Aesthetics, Joe has presented at numerous schools, universities, and organizations all over the United States.  He is a Director of the American River Music Camp and is Co-Director for the Wintergrass Youth Academy.  He received the Performer of the Year award from the Far West Regional Alliance in 2009 for his excellence in folk music and education.  An advocate for the folk arts, Joe’s mission is to empower individuals to take possession of what they already have, and to tell their stories by “demystifying” art through self expression as a daily ritual.
